When I first stepped into my clients’ kitchen, I immediately understood why they were so attached to it. Even though it was dated, it had incredible character. As we walked through their goals, it became clear that keeping the existing structure and original fireplace would limit the transformation they truly wanted. After thoughtful conversations, we decided the best path was to remove that section of the house and rebuild the kitchen, staying close to the original footprint while giving them a clean slate.

From there, my priority was creating a space that felt authentic to the home’s history while adding the functionality and brightness they needed. We incorporated a screened-in porch, brought in natural light wherever possible, and designed meaningful details like a fully functional quartzite ledge, a softly curved cove ceiling, and warm, Amish-crafted cabinetry. Layering rustic elements with clean, minimal lines helped strike the perfect balance between charm and modern ease.

To complete the space, we added a cozy breakfast nook, a flexible styling area for seasonal touches, and a dramatic black-and-white checkered tile floor from Spain laid diagonally that quickly became the statement of the room.

“In the end, this layered kitchen became everything my clients hoped for. Functional, luminous, timeless, and connected to the home’s history while gently leading it into a new chapter.”
